How to Build a Simple Skincare Routine

A good skincare routine does not need to contain a large number of products. For many people, a simple routine that is consistent and appropriate for the skin is easier to maintain and less likely to cause unnecessary irritation.

A good skincare routine does not need to contain a large number of products. For many people, a simple routine that is consistent and appropriate for the skin is easier to maintain and less likely to cause unnecessary irritation.

Start with the basics

A basic routine can usually be organised around three steps:

1. Gentle cleansing appropriate for your skin.

2. A moisturiser selected according to skin type and tolerance.

3. Broad-spectrum sunscreen during the day.

Additional products can be considered when there is a specific concern such as acne, pigmentation or dryness.

More products do not necessarily mean better skin

Using several active ingredients at once can increase irritation. This is particularly relevant for acne-prone or sensitive skin.

If you introduce a new active product, it is often easier to assess tolerance when changes are made gradually rather than introducing multiple products simultaneously.

What about pigmentation?

For pigmentation concerns, sun protection is particularly important. A dermatologist may also recommend specific topical treatment depending on the diagnosis.

It is better to identify the cause of pigmentation before using strong combinations of products, because irritation itself can sometimes worsen pigmentation.

What about acne?

Acne-prone skin may benefit from non-comedogenic products and a routine that avoids excessive scrubbing. Persistent or inflammatory acne may require medical treatment rather than skincare alone.

When should you see a dermatologist?

Seek professional advice when acne is persistent, pigmentation is recurrent or unexplained, the skin is becoming increasingly irritated, or hair and scalp concerns are present.

A dermatologist can help separate a routine skincare issue from a medical condition that needs treatment.

At Xkinovate, skincare recommendations are intended to support the individual's skin health and treatment plan rather than encourage unnecessary product use.
